ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
This project would not have come to fruition without the help of the following individuals and organizations.
Contributors
There would be no basis for this project had the individuals who were part of it not been willing to share their stories. A level of vulnerability and trust went into this process, so thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your openness to sharing your story with all of us. The perspective you bring to the people around you and our community is vital and valued. Each of you made me think in new ways, taught me about new cultural practices and traditions, and at the core, extended compassion and community in a way that I had not before felt on such a level, and I trust that that will be reflected in this collection of your stories. |
Fargo-Moorhead and Greater Minnesota Communities
The response from members of the Fargo-Moorhead community to this project has been elemental to its completion. When spreading the word about my hopes for finding individuals who were willing to share their stories, community members, friends, and neighbors, were excited to point me in the right direction. Nearly everyone had someone dear to them who was born outside of the United States, and they were thoughtful to refer me to resources in the community that might offer connections. |
Adult Basic Education
Starting in the fall of 2021, as their staff welcomed our class of college freshmen into their classrooms, Adult Basic Education in Moorhead has been beyond helpful in facilitating conversations between native-born individuals and individuals born outside the United States. They exude a magnetic culture of care and respect and have continually offered resources for the success of this project and Concordia College students as we go out to become responsibly engaged in the world. |
Historical & Cultural Society of Clay County (HCSCC)
After a suggestion was made to reach out to the HCSCC for potential assistance on this project, executive director Maureen Kelly Jonason and others were eager to brainstorm and lend personal contacts to extend the breadth of this collection. It is evident that the HCSCC is embracing the "cultural" aspect of their name, holding the Pangea festival each fall and building their archives to include new Fargo-Moorhead perspectives. |
Concordia College
Concordia College's Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (URSCA) sponsored this project in spring of 2022. They offered me an opportunity to design and fund this project that would otherwise not have been conceived. Further, the Carl B. Ylvisaker Library has been generous in their advisement as well as providing the resource to create and maintain this website.

Dr. Lisa Twomey, advisor
My biggest advisor and mentor in my college career has been Dr. Lisa Twomey. Lisa was one of the first bright, welcoming faces of Concordia College and has encouraged and inspired me ever since. Constantly trying to understand and interact with individuals of different perspectives, Lisa has been the driving factor in getting me to do the same. She has pushed me to pursue opportunities and step out of my comfort zone time and time again, leading to personal and academic growth. Every interaction with Lisa is guaranteed to leave you uplifted and with a smile on your face. Thank you, Lisa, for inspiring us as students, believing in us, and advocating for the wellbeing and prosperity of everyone around you.
